Idaho Soaring Regatta

For the past several decades the Treasure Valley soaring pilots have organized and participated in a regatta. Normally the Regatta is held during the first two weeks of August. This was done in coordination with the Sun Valley Soaring which was located in Hailey, Idaho. With the closing of Sun Valley Soaring and the renovations of the Hailey airport, it became unfeasible to continue holding the Regatta at the Hailey airport.

The search for a new location yielded Mackay, Idaho. Mackay provided the ability to fly over the same terrain and eliminates the stringent requirements associated with a high traffic tower controlled airport.

The purpose of the Regatta is enjoyment of soaring, fishing, golf and hiking. (In other words, fun!!) Mackay provides the opportunity to fly over challenging terrain, complete badges with many 300 km and 500 km routes to choose from.

Historically, in addition to Idaho, the Regatta has drawn pilot from all over the Pacific Northwest; and, occasional California, Nevada, and Utah.

It should be noted that participation is limited due to tow-plane availability. Contact Tom Dixon to secure your Regatta reservation.
